The Performing Arts Complex will include the following spaces:
Main Stage Theater
This theater will seat 800 people including 200 in a balcony.
It will have a 24 foot high proscenium and an orchestra pit adequate for 40 musicians. The floor of the pit will be an elevator that can establish musicians at half-height for overtures, lower to accompany performances or, without orchestra, level with the stage to extend it toward the audience.
There will be adequate wings, about 50 bars for flying scenery, and a trap room underneath with communicating trap doors. The stage itself will be about 50 by 50 feet.
Backstage, there will be dressing rooms for men and women, a green room, and a modest scene shop for running repairs. Performing groups will be expected to build and store scenery elsewhere.
A loading dock and large doors will accept any scenery that can fit on a truck.
The theater will be equipped with a sound system that can accommodate body microphones as well public address announcements. The control console will be located in the middle of the orchestra section of the seating.
The light booth, located above the balcony, will control numerous light bars and specials as well as one or more spotlights.
Small/Black Box Theater
This theater has been designed for small productions, book-in-hand readings, string quartets, and the like. It will seat 150 people and offer minimal lighting and sound systems. Scenery, if any, is expected to be modest.
Ballroom
The ballroom will be a nearly square 6000 sq. ft. space decorated and lit to make it attractive for balls, weddings, and large meetings. A bandstand will be set into the wall with a balcony overhead on that side. The balcony will be accessible by stairs at its left and right ends.
A sound system suitable for bands or speeches can be controlled at the side of the bandstand.
A catering kitchen, coatrooms, and restrooms will support the ballroom. Storerooms will contain folding chairs and tables.
Lobby
A welcoming lobby will unite all major venues. It will present posters and announcements of coming attractions on its walls as well as photographs showing the history of the building (construction and so forth) and of special events held therein.
A modest coffee shop will serve the lobby; tables and chairs will invite the public to linger.
Ticket Office
The ticket office will be located near the front of the lobby and will sell tickets for the future performances of any group that has engaged a venue for future or current use. Also, season tickets will be available for all or selected subsets of future performances.
Classrooms, Rehearsal spaces, Meeting rooms, and Music Studios
Classrooms and rehearsal spaces will be all-purpose rooms that can be configured to suit whatever purpose is wanted with tables and chairs or just open space. One large rehearsal space will have the same dimensions as the stage. One rehearsal space, at least, will have a mirrored wall and a barre. Both stages can be used for rehearsals when not being used for productions.
Music studios will be fitted with large lockable closets where individual music teachers can store their sheet music, CD’s, and players, etc., accessible whenever the teacher is using the room.
TV/Taping Studio
This studio will support film acting instruction, taping rehearsals for review, and possibly a local TV station.
Management & Development Offices
A small staff will manage the operation of the building, rental of the spaces, security, public relations, and fundraising.
